Common types:
Norovirus: causes acute gastroenteritis (vomiting, diarrhea).
Rotavirus: the main pathogen of diarrhea in children.
Enterovirus 71 (EV71): causes hand, foot and mouth disease (herpes, fever).
Coxsackievirus: may cause herpetic pharyngitis or myocarditis.
Personal protection:
Wash your hands frequently (especially after going to the toilet and before eating).
Avoid contact with vomitus/excrement of patients (handle and disinfect with gloves).
Environmental disinfection:
Use chlorine-containing disinfectants (such as 84) to clean contaminated surfaces.
Boiling dishes and toys at high temperature for disinfection.
Vaccine: Rotavirus vaccine (oral) can prevent severe diarrhea in infants and young children.
